Apa lichid\u0103 pare astfel s\u0103 fie condi\u021bia necesar\u0103 \u0219i suficient\u0103 pentru via\u021ba terestr\u0103 a\u0219a cum o cunoa\u0219tem. \u00centr-adev\u0103r, conform cuno\u0219tin\u021belor noastre actuale, apa lichid\u0103 este singurul solvent care permite o chimie at\u00e2t de bogat\u0103 precum biochimia. Apa are un moment dipolar ridicat. Posibilele fiin\u021be vii pot atunci utiliza energia luminoas\u0103 provenit\u0103 de la steaua gazd\u0103, care este esen\u021bial\u0103 deoarece este motorul fotosintezei. Pe P\u0103m\u00e2nt, aproape toate organismele vii func\u021bioneaz\u0103, direct sau indirect, datorit\u0103 mecanismului de fotosintez\u0103. Aceast\u0103 surs\u0103 considerabil\u0103 de energie a permis vie\u021bii s\u0103 modifice atmosfera \u0219i suprafa\u021ba planetei noastre.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"font-family: Calibri, sans-serif; font-size: 120%; color: #000000;\"><span lang=\"ro-RO\">Categoria II<\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p lang=\"ro-RO\"><span style=\"font-family: Calibri, sans-serif; font-size: 120%; color: #000000;\">Planetele\/lunile din aceast\u0103 categorie au avut c\u00e2ndva caracteristici similare cu cele ale P\u0103m\u00e2ntului (categoria I), dar au pierdut ulterior apa lichid\u0103 de la suprafa\u021b\u0103. Pe aceste planete, via\u021ba a putut ap\u0103rea \u0219i se dezvolta la suprafa\u021b\u0103, iar apoi a invadat subsolul (via\u021ba este abundent\u0103 pe P\u0103m\u00e2nt p\u00e2n\u0103 la ad\u00e2ncimi de c\u00e2\u021biva kilometri). Europa (satelit natural al lui Jupiter) \u0219i Enceladus (\u00een jurul lui Saturn) apar\u021bin acestei categorii. Pe aceste corpuri, temperatura la suprafa\u021b\u0103 este sub -100\u00b0C, dar apa este men\u021binut\u0103 lichid\u0103 \u00een ad\u00e2ncime prin energia termic\u0103 generat\u0103 de disiparea mareelor gravita\u021bionale cauzate de excentricitatea orbitelor lor \u00een jurul lui Jupiter \u0219i Saturn.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"font-family: Calibri, sans-serif; font-size: 120%; color: #000000;\"><span lang=\"ro-RO\">Categoria IV<\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p lang=\"ro-RO\"><span style=\"font-family: Calibri, sans-serif; font-size: 120%; color: #000000;\">\u00cen cele din urm\u0103, planetele\/lunile din categoria IV au un ocean de ap\u0103 lichid\u0103 subteran, similar cu cele din categoria III, dar acoperit de o crusta groas\u0103 de ghea\u021b\u0103. De fapt, dac\u0103 cantitatea de ap\u0103 prezent\u0103 pe aceste obiecte este prea mare, diagrama de faz\u0103 a apei prezice existen\u021ba unei straturi de ghea\u021b\u0103 la presiune \u00eenalt\u0103, \u00eentre oceanul lichid \u0219i nucleul silicat. Pe obiectele din categoria III, o via\u021b\u0103 eventual\u0103 poate totu\u0219i profita de energia chimic\u0103 \u0219i nutrien\u021bii adu\u0219i de activitatea hidrotermal\u0103 \u0219i vulcanic\u0103.
